Leidenfrost temperature: Surface thermal diffusivity and effusivity effect
نویسندگان
چکیده
Droplet impact on hot surfaces results in either droplet-surface contact or non-contact, i.e., the Leidenfrost state. The droplet is levitated upon its vapor, deteriorating heat transfer. temperature depends thermal properties of surface, which are usually characterized by two parameters: diffusivity and effusivity. In this paper, effects these parameters clarified experimentally varying one interest while keeping other constant. experimental indicate that affected effusivity rather than diffusivity; higher is, lower temperature; increase with velocity greater for surface To further understand findings, a theoretical model proposed, considers transient transfer surface. analysis shows scales inverse root square velocity, good agreement results.

Room temperature water Leidenfrost droplets.
We experimentally investigate the Leidenfrost effect at pressures ranging from 1 to 0.05 atmospheric pressure. As a direct consequence of the Clausius–Clapeyron phase diagram of water, the droplet temperature can be at ambient temperature in a non-sophisticated lab environment. Furthermore, the lifetime of the Leidenfrost droplet is significantly increased in this low pressure environment. The ...

Please cite this article in press as: Oldroyd HJ et http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.advwatres.2012.06.0 Thermal diffusivity of snow is an important thermodynamic property associated with key hydrological phenomena such as snow melt and heat and water vapor exchange with the atmosphere. Direct determination of snow thermal diffusivity requires coupled point measurements of thermal conductivity and d...
متن کاملThermal Conductivity and Diffusivity. of Climax Stock Quartz Monzonite at High Pressure and Temperature
Measurements of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity have been made on two samples of Climax Stock quartz monzonite at pressures between 3 and 50 MPa and temperatures between 300 and 523 K. Following those measurements, the apparatus was calibrated with respect to the thermal conductivity measurement using a reference standard of fused silica. Corrected thermal conductivity of the rock ...
متن کاملSustained drag reduction in a turbulent flow using a low-temperature Leidenfrost surface
Skin friction drag contributes a major portion of the total drag for small and large water vehicles at high Reynolds number (Re). One emerging approach to reducing drag is to use superhydrophobic surfaces to promote slip boundary conditions. However, the air layer or "plastron" trapped on submerged superhydrophobic surfaces often diminishes quickly under hydrostatic pressure and/or turbulent pr...
متن کاملEffects of Micro/Nano-Scale Surface Characteristics on the Leidenfrost Point Temperature of Water
In recent film boiling heat transfer studies with nanofluids, it was reported that deposition of nanoparticles on a surface significantly increases the nominal minimum heat flux (MHF) or Leidenfrost Point (LFP) temperature, considerably accelerating the transient cooling of overheated objects. It was suggested that the thin nanoparticle deposition layer and the resulting changes in the physico-...
